Myanmar has a long coastline of 2832 kilometers. The total area of swamps along the coast is about 0.5 million hectares which provides a very good base for the development of aquaculture including shrimp and prawn culture. Inland water bodies such as natural lakes, reservoirs, river systems etc. cover an area of about 8.2 million hectares. At present, flood fisheries produce about seventy thousand tons of fish and prawn annually.SWH has started its operation in fishery in 2000, utilizing modernized fishing vessels. It now has 20 fishing vessels, and a total asset of USD $10 million.
